Optimizing Water Usage in Agriculture with Automated Drip Irrigation and Sensor Technology

This study presents the development and implementation of an automated drip irrigation system utilizing Arduino Uno and soil moisture sensors. The primary goal is to optimize water usage and improve crop management by delivering water directly to plant roots based on real-time soil moisture readings. The system employs a soil moisture sensor connected to an analog input pin on the Arduino Uno, which continuously monitors soil moisture levels. A relay module, controlled by a digital output pin, activates a water pump when soil moisture falls below a predefined threshold, ensuring that plants receive adequate hydration. The Arduino Uno is programmed to provide real-time feedback via serial communication, displaying soil moisture values and the pump's status. This approach significantly reduces water wastage and labor requirements compared to traditional manual and sprinkler irrigation methods. The system is designed for scalability and ease of use, making it suitable for various agricultural applications. The results demonstrate the system's efficiency in water conservation and labor efficiency, highlighting its potential to enhance sustainable farming practices.
