The Influence of Electricity Consumption on Power Line Radiation in the Topside Ionosphere- A Case Study Using CSES Satellite Observation

The variation of the Power Line Radiation (PLR) occurrence rate over the Ukraine region is studied using the electric field data from the China Seismo- Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES) in low Earth orbit. The results show that the PLR occurrence rate is mainly controlled by solar radiation, but can still respond to the significant changes in electricity consumption. According to the research, the PLR occurrence rate in Ukraine's eastern region, where the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine occurred, the PLR occurrence rate decreased significantly in March 2022, while the PLR occurrence rate in Ukraine's western region, which was less affected by the military conflict, remained unchanged. The PLR occurrence rate in the Eastern conflict region reduced dramatically again in October 2022. We speculate that it may be due to the decrease in electricity supply again.
