Prediction of Movie Box Office Success Using YouTube Trailer Comments and Wikipedia Data

The prediction of a movie's success or failure at the box office is a challenging task due to the various factors that influence it. In addition to the audience's reception to a movie's trailer, key factors such as - the popularity of actors and actresses starring in the film, the movie studio's marketing efforts, and critical reception playa significant role in determining a movie's box office performance. Social media also has a prominent influence over box office performance with more and more people using social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to express their opinions and feelings on movies. This research aims to predict the box office success of movies using machine learning algorithms by combining contemporary Wikipedia data with the opinions expressed by audiences through comments on YouTube movie trailers.
