Modeling the Influence of Tool Tilt Angle on Load Distribution During Surface Plastic Deformation of the Difficult-to-Machine 12Cr18Ni10Ti Material

The presented work involves numerical modeling and experimental research on the effect of tool tilt angle on the distribution of contact stresses and deformation energy during surface plastic deformation (SPD) of hard-to-machine stainless steel 12Cr18Ni10Ti. Using the DEFORM 3D software, SPD processes were simulated both without tilt and with a tool tilt angle of 45°. The modeling showed that changing the tool tilt angle to 45° does not significantly affect the stress magnitude but leads to a decrease in the depth of the deformed layer from 0.57 mm to 0.42 mm and a reduction in deformation energy from 13.9 N-mm to 10.9 N-mm. The results of practical experiments confirmed the positive effect of tool tilt angle on the quality of the machined surface. The obtained data can be used to improve technological processes for machining hard-to-machine materials, enhancing both efficiency and quality.
