An Optimized FIR Filter Design for Noise Reduction in Bio-Medical Signal Processing

In Bio-medical applications, signals like Electro-Oculogram, is a type of biological signal, measuring the parameters of human being’s eye. It requires an optimized method for EOG signal processing for obtaining parameters in a better manner. By using the CSD (Canonical Signed Digit) technique, which is one of the distributed arithmetic methodologies, an efficient hardware can be designed especially for signal processing like Finite Impulse Response (FIR) Filters. The design of FIR filter in which CSD technique is incorporated can minimize the number of adders in the architecture. To improve performance of filters these adders are replaced with Parallel Prefix Adders. The proposed method improves the accuracy of EOG signal processing and reduces delay. Finally, we have deduced a comparative investigation with max delay, min delay, and other resource-specific parameters and presented them to show the computational efficiency of our FIR design using CSD and PPA.
