Resident-Centric Government EV Charging Stations using Blockchain technology

The increase in demand for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations has resulted in varied charging rates by the privately-owned charging stations and imposes a necessity to make immediate payments corresponding to the charging amount. To address this issue, this paper proposes a government-operated charging station using blockchain technology to ensure secure, transparent, and decentralized operations. Residents of a community are registered in a government-operated blockchain to charge their vehicles in a government-operated charging station. The authenticity of the resident is verified via a smart contract before permitting the blockchain charging transaction to occur. Using the blockchain network, the charging amount is added to the resident’s electricity bill for making the payment. This provides the resident a great relief from making immediate payment. Also, reward points are provided via the blockchain to the residents based on the energy consumed for the EV. In this process, residents benefit from uniform pricing across stations, secure transactions with cumulative payments, and automated billing with reward incentives.
