Minimizing Radar Cross-Section in Slot Antennas Using Polarization Conversion Metasurfaces

This work proposes a novel slot-based antenna design incorporating a PCM (polarization conversion metasurface) to mitigate RCS (radar cross section). The PCM comprises an element with two curved, crescent-shaped blades aligned around a common center that effectively converts the incident linear polarization into its orthogonal counterpart. Additionally, the PCM exhibits a high polarization conversion efficiency exceeding 97% within the 5.78 - 13.50 GHz range. This configuration induces destructive interference, reducing RCS significantly. The proposed design demonstrates a 22 dB radar cross section reduction at 5.85 GHz within the 5.6-13.4 GHz frequency band.
