Balancing Act: Legal and Political Dimensions of Engineering Decision Making

Engineers often make decisions that profoundly impact society, with consequences ranging from saving lives to jeopardizing property. This study examines the complex interplay between the regulatory framework and the politics that shape these technological practices. Through an extensive literature review and real-world case studies, the findings of the study highlight the importance of understanding the legal constraints and political dynamics of the whole game for engineers, and efficient accounting decision-making has been further emphasized and incorporated. However, the political considerations in a case can affect the interpretation and implementation of these legal systems, as various stakeholder groups try to sway policymakers' navigation of this Law-politics interface, which poses enormous challenges for engineers who have to balance technical, ethical, and practical considerations with evolving regulations and psychological pressures. This study highlights the importance of engineers' engagement in the legal and political contexts of their profession; if the engineering profession is to foster its potential to deliver solutions that serve the public interest more through this holistic understanding, they will get it.
