P2P Network in Blockchain

Summary

This chapter discusses the peer‐to‐peer (P2P) network layer that typically underpins blockchain systems. It presents the P2P network structures, including traditional models as well as those employed within blockchains. Node discovery methods from Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Hyperledger Fabric are examined. Broadcasting protocols such as Gossip as well as innovative approaches are also covered. The chapter provides an overview of key components that facilitate nodes to connect, communicate and disseminate information in decentralized blockchain networks.
