Carbon‐Based 2D Materials

Global warming continues to worsen while evidence mounts that we will need to develop methods to generate more and more green energy without emitting carbon dioxide or any other sort of greenhouse gas. Fortunately, there are several methods for producing renewable green energy sources that do not harm the environment. Carbon Carbon‐based materials give the advantages of easy solution processing, high conductivity, high mechanical flexibility, and exceptional environmental stability. However, because to of its low electrical conductivity and ongoing stability difficulties, the promise of offering low‐cost, large‐area, similarly efficient electronic devices has not been realized. By synthesis ofzing carbon carbon‐based 2D materials like carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphitic carbon nitride (GCN), graphene and its derivative with other species, such as inorganic oxides and compounds, their material characteristics can be dramatically improved. The conjugation system of carbon‐based compounds like CNTs, GCN, “graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO),”which also have a large conjugating system with graphene‐based material and oxides have increased electrical conductivity, impact resistance, mechanical strength, and heat resistance. Also, there are several possibilities to modify the carbon carbon‐based 2D material properties to enhance the optoelectronic properties. Using these materials with fullerene or its derivative in the active layer of the devices leads to improved optoelectronic properties. The aim is to impart a good knowledge of the CNT materials used for optoelectronic applications. After a general overview of the carbon carbon‐based 2D materials, this chapter describes tools for compound synthesis, solution preparation, device fabrication, and characterization which plays a vital role in the production of green energy.
