State of the Art Technologies for Liquid Immersed Power Transformer Online Monitoring

Liquid Immersed Power transformers are critical components of electrical power distribution systems, and their reliable operation is essential to maintaining system stability and reliability. Continuous Online monitoring of power transformers can identify incipient problems before they lead to outages, production losses, or other safety and environmental impacts. Switching from a time-based maintenance to a condition-based maintenance approach can reduce downtime and costs of transformer maintenance. This paper reviews the technologies available for power transformer online monitoring, as included in the latest IEEE and CIGRE documents [1],[2],[3],[5],[6],[7],[8]. The paper will discuss the key monitoring parameters for online transformer monitoring. The paper also discusses the challenges of online monitoring of power transformers, such as the need for reliable sensors, the need to interpret data correctly, and the need to integrate monitoring data with other information to identify potential transformer failures.
