Jellyfish Search Optimizer for Optimal Planning of DG Units Considering Load Levels

Adopting renewable energy sources-based distributed generation (DG) within radial distribution systems (RDSs) has earned significant attention in recent years because of its potential benefits in enhancing system performance. These benefits can be extracted by properly integrating DG units into the RDS. To this end, this study introduces a novel optimization framework employing the Jellyfish Search (JS) optimizer technique to determine the proper allocation and sizing of DGs within the RDS. The primary goals are to reduce power losses and improve the system voltage profile while considering variable load. The study evaluates two load levels: a $\mathbf{5 0 \%}$ decreasing load and a 100% peak load. At each load level, the optimal placements and sizes of DG units are identified. The study demonstrates that load levels significantly influence the optimal allocation and sizing of DGs within the RDS. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated using the IEEE 69 bus RDS. The outcomes are compared to other methods from the literature and satisfactory results are obtained.
