Abstract:
Many real-world competitive decision-making challenges can be broken down into criteria based selection processes, where the selection model is based on the preferences of the decision maker, selection alternatives and the methods for evaluation of relevant alternatives. The primary purpose of this study is to describe the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy (FAHP) processes and apply them for comparing and ranking eight laptop models according to various factors such as performance, battery life, display quality and price. This study used heatmaps to protray the relative significance of different laptop models as per specific features as well as the relative significance of different features across laptop models based on user preferences. Pairwise comparisons were drawn among the laptop models followed by determination of AHP and FAHP total scores for each of them. The final rankings of laptops obtained through AHP and FAHP were identical to each other probably due to the lack of ambiguity and uncertainty in the user preference data considered in the study.
