Hybrid Integrated Photonic Circuits for High Bandwidth Coherent Receivers in Optical Communication Networks

Hybrid integrated photonic circuit technology realizing high bandwidth coherent receivers is presented. Integrated coherent receivers based on chip-to-chip coupling between high speed InP-based photodiode array chips and a silica-based planar lightwave chip have been demonstrated at a data rate per wavelength of 800 Gb/s with polarization division multiplexed quadrature amplitude modulation.
