Establishing Public Charging Infrastructure in India: An Data-Driven Strategic Plan

Air pollution is a serious issue to which millions of conventional fuel cars contribute significantly by emitting harmful and toxic substances. With the increase in the demand for vehicles, there is a drastic increase in air pollution. Alternative propulsion vehicles must be introduced to solve the issues of increasing pollution. Electric vehicles as an alternate solution are gaining popularity in different countries. Migration to EVs will depend on the availability of the charging infrastructure. However, many costs are incurred while setting up the public charging infrastructure (PCI). So, the PCI must be installed cautiously. The decisions on the numbers and placement of these charging stations will be crucial for cost optimization. In this paper, a phase-wise strategy for the installation of charging stations is proposed. Different cities in India are considered and analyzed to validate the proposed strategy. The result of the analysis in the paper provides an optimized installation of PCI.
