Video Processing and Monitoring Animal Movement Models to Measure Learning and Memory in the T Maze Spontaneous Alternation Test with YOLO Implementation

Monitoring the behavior of mice as an animal model is vital in medical research for understanding diseases and testing potential drugs. The T Maze Spontaneous Alternation Test measures learning and memory in mice. This paper proposes a video processing system using YOLOv8 for real-time tracking of mice, aiming to enhance accuracy and efficiency over traditional manual methods. Comparative experiments demonstrate a significant increase in data accuracy and efficiency. Our system achieves an average accuracy of 0.951 with a recall of 0. 981. The system automates behavior analysis in a T maze, offering potential applications in research on neurological disorders and cognitive impairments.
