An Access Control Scheme for Autonomous Vehicle Platooning Based on Revocable Attribute-Based Encryption

The Autonomous Vehicle Platooning System (AVPS) represents a novel vehicle-connected application that has the potential to enhance road efficiency and reduce energy consumption and emissions through the utilisation of V2X communication technology. However, existing access control schemes present many challenges in the context of AVPS, including the publication of ciphertext, the disclosure of user identity privacy, key management, and access flexibility. The deployment of attribute-based encryption schemes is constrained by several factors, including the control of data sources and the management of dynamic access control. Additional constraints include the performance of the encryption process and the efficiency of the overall system. This paper puts forth an efficient and dynamic access control scheme based on revocation attribute encryption, which enables the following vehicle to filter and verify the attribute set of the lead vehicle. In order to address the dynamic nature of vehicles, an indirect revocation mechanism has been devised. The employment of an edge computing unit serves to reduce the pressure on the on-board unit with regard to computing and storage. The security analysis and simulation results confirm the scheme's practical security and efficiency.
