Application of Carbon Nanoparticles with Arc-Discharge Synthesis as an Anode Material in Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are a type of rechargeable secondary battery consisting of electrodes (anode and cathode), a separator, and an electrolyte. The commonly used anode material is graphite powder. Recently, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have also begun to be researched for their application as electrodes in batteries. The advantage of nanoparticle technology is its openness to being combined with other technologies, thereby opening opportunities to create better delivery systems. In this research, lithium-ion batteries were fabricated with the addition of nanoparticles as the anode. The purpose of this study is to compare lithium-ion batteries with anodes made of graphite material, CNTs synthesized by arc-discharge with a current variation of 40A, and combinations of graphite with CNTs 40A, graphite with MWCNTs, and CNTs 40A with MWCNTs in terms of maximum capacity and time during the charge and discharge process. The results of this study show that batteries with anodes made of a mixture of graphite and CNTs 40A have better maximum capacity compared to batteries with other anode materials, reaching 0.40 Ah during charging and 0.23 Ah during discharging in the first cycle. Batteries with anodes made of a mixture of CNTs 40A and MWCNTs have the fastest charging and discharging process, reaching 28436 seconds during charging and 7563 seconds during discharging in the 5th cycle.
