A Carbon-Based FET-type Gas Sensor with Tenax TA Screening Unit for The Selective Detection of Benzene and Toluene

Volatile organic compounds are crucial detection targets in the field of environmental monitoring. However, in the complex gas environments, gas sensing devices often face challenges in effectively identifying and detecting target gases within mixed gas mixtures due to cross-sensitivity to different gases. In this work, a carbon-based FET-type gas sensor with $\mathrm{ZnO} / \mathrm{WS}_{2}$ nano-composites as the gate material and Tenax TA as screening unit has been developed for the selective detection of benzene and toluene. The proposed gas sensor shows excellent gas sensitivity and has a certain response to various gases at room temperature, among which the response to benzene is the highest. Tenax TA particles are used as a screening unit to successfully separate and detect benzene in air mixture at optimum heating temperature.The experimental results show that the sensor has wonderful selection performance. It is expected that this strategy can provide a meaningful guide for the development of highperformance gas sensors that can effectively identify and detect target gas in complex gas environments.
