Design of Forward DC-DC Converter for SCC using Cascaded Controller

In this paper presented design of forward DC-DC converter for solar charging controller (SCC) implementation in renewable energy systems. It aims to optimize energy conversion efficiency and to enhance the performances. The renewable energy has recently become a prominent topic due environmentally friendly energy, as well as its advanced technology. The implementation of forward DC-DC converter as solar charging controller (SCC) is essential for regulating battery parameters and managing power flow from photovoltaic (PV) to battery. In addition, a cascaded proportional-integral (PI) controller is utilized to manage current and voltage parameters, thereby preventing battery overcharging. Control parameters are determined using the Ziegler-Nichols method reaction curve based. This method is used to obtained the precise control parameters. A MATLAB software is used for simulation and controller design State of charge (SoC) variations are presented in two scenarios: with and without the controller. The SoC levels are set at ${2 5 \%}, {5 0 \%}$ and ${9 5 \%}$, where a high SoC percentage indicates a nearly full battery capacity, and a low SoC percentage indicates a nearly empty battery capacity. With the cascaded controller, both current and voltage responses across different SoC levels demonstrate satisfactory performance, including rapid transient responses, minimal overshoot, small ripples, and robustness.
