Early Epilepsy Seizure Monitoring Through Integrated Eye Tracking, Heart Rate and EEG Sensors

Epilepsy is a neurological disease, that randomly affects individuals of all ages and usually starts to appear in childhood, but it can also begin to appear in adulthood. Statistically, epileptic individuals confront a premature death that is three times higher compared to the general population. Furthermore, an overwhelming 80% of those individuals are in countries with limited health resources, making effective seizure management difficult. This paper aims to propose a device in response to the medical challenge of healthcare providers coping with and monitoring epileptic seizures. The device is equipped with integrated parameters that are focused on eye blinking, heart rate, and Electroencephalography (EEG) signals. This unique combination offers an effective way to monitor individuals with epilepsy, providing critical data for managing their conditions. Utilizing advanced assistive technology, the proposed device monitors and detects seizure episodes early with high sensitivity, allowing immediate assistance by caregivers and health providers. In addition to data collection, this device is an alternative approach that may lower the chance of harm and facilitate better monitoring and seizure detection. Finally, the monitoring device can constantly check the status of the patient's disease making assistance reachable and easier.
