A Quantitative Approach to Measure the Resilience of Freight Transport Utilizing Battery-Electric Trucks

This paper presents a quantitative methodology for assessing the resilience of freight transportation systems using battery electric trucks. By identifying and categorizing potential disruptions ranging from environmental factors to technical disruptions, the study develops a comprehensive framework for analyzing their impact on the intertwined transportation and energy systems. The resilience of these systems is assessed through a detailed evaluation of the severity and probability of each identified disruption, taking into account various boundary conditions such as ambient temperature and logistical requirements. A scoring system is used to prioritize disruptions and formulate resilience strategies, focusing on system sustainability and efficiency. The proposed approach emphasizes the integration of redundancies, predictive maintenance, and strategic planning to enhance the operational resilience of battery-electric transportation systems. This paper aims to provide stakeholders with robust tools to improve resilience in light of recent challenges in the transportation sector, and to pave the way for further research in adaptive and predictive resilience modeling.
