Suitability of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator with Magnetic Gear for Wind Power Generation

In wind power applications, the main mechanical energy flow comprises the turbine, the transmission and the generator, each component adding volume and inertia to the system, while the overall efficiency is affected at each level. But if we could decrease the number of components, it means that we could practically obtain increased efficiency for our wind generator. For that, we are proposing a generator with magnetic gear, which integrates the transmission and the generator. By means of electromagnetic analysis, as well as experiments, we are investigating the suitability of such a solution for wind power applications.
