Abstract:

Voltage sags are important voltage problem in electrical power systems. Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is the method to regulate for these voltage problems. DVR is a device connected in series to system, and it plays an important role to detect the voltage sags. In the literature, there are different methods to detect voltage sags for DVR structures in electrical grids. In this study, the sliding mode control (SMC) structure is developed, and the response of the DVR is measured using the different voltage scenario. A controller design was created using the voltage amplitude and phase information obtained with the improved sliding mode control. This controller compensates for balanced/unbalanced voltage drops occurring in the electrical system via DVR. Simulation results of the developed SMC-based controller are presented using the MATLAB/Simulink program. The proposed detection method provides fast and successful results for solving voltage problems.
