Compact Ultra-Wideband Planar Antenna with Rectangular ring for Stable Radiation Pattern

This work presents a compact planar antenna producing stable gain and radiation pattern in an ultrawide operating bandwidth. By adding a rectangular ring to the conical patch antenna, the bandwidth of the antenna is extended effectively while the lowest resonant frequency is reduced. Simulated results show that the proposed antenna has a bandwidth of 93% (0.8 GHz - 2.2 GHz). Stable radiation patterns are generated within the bandwidth. The peak gain of the antenna varies between 1.8 dBi and 2.5 dBi. This design provides a new perspective and solution for the advancement of compact ultra-wideband antenna design.
