Genetic Algorithms Applied to the Modelling of the Transfer Function of PLC Channels

This paper presents a mathematical model applied to obtain the transfer function of PLC channels. This model is a modification of the M. Zimmerman and K. Dostert approach, whose accuracy is not very good when applying the least square fit method to the calculation of the attenuation constant; this accuracy has been improved applying genetic algorithms to calculate the attenuation constant. The model presented is valid for being used in real aerial powerlines with an improved accuracy of 20 dB for the frequency interval of 1MHz - 50MHz in comparison to the least square fit. It has great ease of use and results obtained over the grid of a small town in Mexico are presented.
