Research on Advanced Technologies of High-Performance CMOS mm-Wave FMCW Synthesizer

In recent years, the development of autonomous-driving has put forward strict requirements on millimeter wave radar. As a key module of mm-Wave radar chips, the mm-Wave frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) synthesizer needs to achieve higher performance, such as a larger chirp bandwidth and faster chirp rate. This paper will introduce the architecture of fraction-N phase lock loop (PLL) and the advanced technology for wideband frequency modulation, multi-bank digitally-controlled oscillator (DCO) calibration, and digital predistortion technology for chirp modulation nonlinearity. Finally, the development direction of mm-Wave FMCW frequency synthesizer is prospected.
