Automatic Emergency Braking Based on Distance Using Fuzzy Logic Control

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) is a safety feature on vehicles that is useful for preventing or reducing the impact of collisions. This System developed to ensure the safety of autonomous vehicle for this case is MEVi ( Micro Electric Vehicle) when there is an emergency situation like obstacle in fron of MEVi. The objective of this research is to develop and implement an AEB system on a MEVi using Mamdani fuzzy logic control. The inputs to the fuzzy logic system are distance and speed. Distance is measured by two AJ-SR04M ultrasonic sensors mounted on the front of the vehicle. The sensor is designed to detect the distance between the vehicle and any obstacles in its path. The speed input will employ a random input from the analog pin of the Teensy 4.1 microcontroller, with a range of 0–15 km/h. Based on these two inputs, fuzzy logic will produce outputs in the form of brake pressure and brake speed, ensuring optimal braking in accordance with the prevailing conditions. The system will be implemented using two microcontrollers, namely the Teensy 4.1 and the Arduino N ano, which will communicate with one another using two distinct serial communication protocols, namely UART and ROSSerial. In this research the test only taken by static test due to safety concern. The test done by putting obstacle in front of MEVi and the AEB is monitored. The test results demonstrate that the developed AEB system is capable of controlling the braking system in accordance with the input obtained from fuzzy logic. However, further testing under dynamic conditions is necessary to validate the performance of the system in real-world scenarios. Ultimately, this AEB system shows significant potential for implementation on MEVi, with the possibility of enhanced performance through further testing and development.
