Design of a Dielectric Radome with High Power Tolerance and Frequency Selective Characteristics

This paper presents a design of a dielectric radome based on the equivalent transmission line theory, which integrated with a frequency selective surface (FSS) and achieves over 80% transmission efficiency in the L and S bands, while providing a 10 dB stopband suppression in the C band range of approximately 1 GHz. Simulation results demonstrate excellent angular stability within the angle of incidence wave range from 0° to 50°. The analysis of dielectric loss rate in both TE and TM modes shows that although the loss rate increases with frequency, it remains still very low within the operating bands, verifying the effectiveness of the design. Additionally, electromagnetic and thermal simulation results indicate that the radome can withstand power radiation levels up to 20 W/cm², exhibiting outstanding thermal stability and high-power handling capability. This design is particularly suitable for curved radome applications, offering excellent transmission and stopband performance.
