A Web-based Proctoring System using PHP-MySQL and Logistic Regression for Student Classification

The Proctor plays the role and responsibility of 'Friend, Philosopher and Guide' in nurturing the student for their overall academics. It is a common practice to pair a student with a Proctor (20-25 students per Proctor). In the past, we kept manual hard copies of records (Proctor Diary), and it is very challenging for the proctor to gather the information of each student to fill the counseling books. To solve this problem, digitization and reduction of human effort are required as the number of students increases year by year. Like, we now tend to store everything on laptops, mobile phones, and other devices, so that we can easily search for relevant data by hitting a few keys and have everything visible on our screen. Currently, we don’t have such applications which are used to maintain the academic performance, extracurricular performance and attendance of each and every student under the proctor’s student list. The goal of this project is to create an online web application for student counselling, that will be updated frequently with the student attendance, academic performance, circular, co-circular, and extracurricular activities, to save time and resources for both counselors and students while addressing current recordkeeping issues. Technologies used are HTML, CSS, JavaScript, HTTP requests for front-end, PHP is used for the backend and the database used is MySQL and the server is XAMP control panel. Logistic Regression algorithm is used in the dashboard to represent the variation in the statistics of the students.
