Efficiency Optimization Control of Modular Multiunit Permanent Magnet In-Wheel Machines

In order to improve the operating efficiency of in-wheel machine system under light load condition, this article proposes an efficiency optimization control strategy for the modular multiunit permanent magnet (MMU-PM) in-wheel machines. Namely, according to the operating condition of the machine, the number of working units is dynamically adjusted to improve the operating efficiency of the machine. First, the structure characteristic and mathematical model of an MMU-PM in-wheel machine are introduced. Second, the loss characteristics of the MMU-PM in-wheel machine drive system is analyzed. On this basis, an efficiency optimization control strategy using support vector machine (SVM) algorithm to dynamically adjust the number of working units is proposed. In addition, in order to reduce the transient torque abrupt change in the process of adjusting the number of working units, a stable switching strategy of units is proposed. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
