Research on the Self Noise Characteristics of Unmanned Sailboat at Sea

Unmanned sailboat at sea are an emerging mobile carrier in the field of ocean observation and exploration, which can integrate sound sensors. Therefore, we are very concerned about the self noise of unmanned sailboat and whether it will affect the data acquisition of acoustic sensors. On December 08, 2023, the unmanned sailboat “Seagull” conducted a sea experiment in the South China Sea. This paper studied the self noise data of “Seagull” measured in the experiment. By drawing time-frequency diagrams and noise spectrum level diagrams, the self noise of unmanned sailboats in turning and straight-line sailing states was analyzed, and the characteristics of rudder motor noise and sail motor noise were summarized refer to work logs. Based on the Wenz spectrum, the analysis results indicate that during normal sailing, the adjustment law of the unmanned sailboat servo depends on the sailing state. At a wind speed of 10m/s during the experiment, the self noise in straight-line sailing state exceeds within 2dB of the ocean environment noise, making it suitable for unmanned sailboat to conducting experiments with acoustic sensors.
