Numerical Simulation and Analysis of Temperature dependent Electrically Pumped Micro disk Lasers for Medical Applications

Advancements in integrated electronic circuits have enabled diverse device integration within a single chip. For optical circuits to attain similar integration, containing light within small spaces becomes crucial. Their capacity to emit light uniformly in all directions further enhances their appeal in this domain. Micro disk lasers are tiny, disk-shaped semiconductor devices used for optical applications. They typically consist of a thin active layer confined in a disk geometry, enhancing light-matter interaction. Their small size allows for efficient energy confinement, enabling low-threshold lasing. These lasers offer potential for on-chip integration in photonics and optical communication systems due to their compactness and potential for high-density integration. This research work provides a detailed analysis on the temperature dependent static, dynamic and modulation characteristics of electrically pumped micro-disk lasers operating at 1059nm. The lasing wavelength is centered about 1059nm. The steady state, transient, and modulation characteristics of the device are extensively examined as a result of the temperature variation from 25°C to 100°C. The analysis examines the impact of temperature variation on device parameters such as bandwidth, rise time, and threshold current. The results of the analysis are summarized at the conclusion of each section to facilitate a clear interpretation.
