Current-Based Adaptive Low-Pass Filter for Energy Management of Dual-Source Electric Vehicle

The electric vehicle (EV) is often considered the most feasible remedy for environmental problems. However, the autonomy, size, cost of the battery, and limited battery life of this green car are only a few of its problems. The limitations of batteries can be circumvented with the energy performance provided by supercapacitors (SC). One possible use for it is to build a hybrid energy storage system (HESS). In HESS, the Energy Management Strategy (EMS) plays a vital role in ensuring optimal energy distribution. The performance of the fixed cut-off low-pass filter (LPF) approach is suggested to be enhanced by the adaptive low-pass filter (ALPF) in this study. Simulation tests show that compared to the battery-only EV, the HESS with ALPF can reduce Battery Current Root Means Square (BCRMS) and energy loss of the battery by up to 43.24% and 67.79% respectively, in real drive cycles. In comparison, ALPF can use SC power more effectively compared to LPF with a lower peak battery power.
