Wideband Sequential Rotation Dual-Circularly Polarized Magnetoelectric Dipole Array With Polarization Independent Control for Intelligent Vehicle Communications

In this communication, a polarization-independent controlled wideband sequential rotation (SR) dual-circularly polarized (dual-CP) magnetoelectric dipole array is proposed. The basic element of the array is the quasi-circular-shaped magnetoelectric dipole (ME-dipole) with slots and stubs, which coupling fed by the independent microstrips on the upper and lower layers of the cross slot, and a shared bandwidth of 17.73% is realized. An SR strategy is introduced and implemented using a $2\times 2$ and $4\times 4$ array, further improving the impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and port isolation. The entire feeding network is placed beneath the array without occupying additional space. A $4\times 4$ antenna array is fabricated and measured, indicating a shared impedance bandwidth greater than 53% and a 3-dB shared AR bandwidth of 43.33%, with the port isolation higher than 12 dB. With the metrics of compact structure, wideband dual-CP performance, and polarization-independent control, the proposed array is a promising candidate for intelligent vehicle communication applications.
