Modelling Electromagnetic Field Exposure and SAR in Vehicles Due to On-board Transmitters

Field exposure issues, including in vehicles, are of increasing interest. Vehicle occupants are exposed to a non-uniform field distribution that arises from resonances within the partial cavity of the passenger compartment. Although field exposure guidelines typically refer to the average field over the body, the relationship between the reference levels and the basic restrictions is based upon the assumption that the body is exposed to a uniform plane wave. Numerical modeling has been used to investigate whether the relationship between the reference levels and the basic restrictions that is assumed in the exposure guidelines remains relevant for the vehicle environment.
