Global CSS Reset Problem and Techniques of its Solution

The necessity to isolate local properties of cascade stylesheet from global changes or, in the other words, the CSS Reset problem led to the appearance of various techniques of its solution. The CSS Reset problem has two variations. The Browser CSS Reset problem is to determine identical property values in different browsers and their versions. The Global CSS Reset problem is to determine permanent property values in local web page containers. This problem has been interested us while developing the scientific conference section on a university website. We explore the techniques to solve the Global CSS Reset problem. The all: revert technique consists in setting the property values determined in the User agent stylesheet. The technique of increasing the priority of local container styles is to duplicate the class name when determining styles. The technique of explicitly determining style property values consists in specifying the values of properties in a local container or its elements. The technique of avoiding global styles is to divide a web page text into non-overlapping containers. Specified styles are determined for each container. These styles do not affect other containers. We discuss the techniques and analyze their advantages and disadvantages. We use a combination of techniques such as all: revert, increasing the priority of local container styles, explicitly determining style property values to solve the Global CSS Reset problem.
