A Holistic Approach to IT Sustainability: Benefits and Implications of the Sustainable IT Framework

The concern for the environment, as time passed on, has led companies around the globe to think about incorporating sustainable solutions in their organizations and Green Information Technology (Green IT) is the key to it. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of implementing the Sustainable IT Framework in utilizing Green IT to improve sustainability aspects of business. In this paper, we identified, classified, and assessed Green IT initiatives employing an effective framework in organizations of different types and sizes to measure sustainability by analyzing different aspects like energy consumption, number of cost savings, carbon footprint reduction, resource use efficiency, and user satisfaction levels. Qualitative data was gathered through the survey, interviews, and organizational reports after which the Sustainable IT Framework was carried out. According to the obtained experiments, a positive shift regarding all the performance parameters was evident. The averages that organizations achieved include electricity savings of 276000 kHh, $34,500 financial savings, a 29% reduction in carbon footprint, a 33% improvement in resource utilization efficiency, and 88% user satisfaction. Alongside, the total sustainability scores have risen on average up to 13 points. To validate the framework the comparative analysis was also provided with state-of-art techniques that proved the superiority of the proposed solutions in both efficiency and environmental impact aspects. In the given framework, the predictive model that we have used to demonstrate the performance of our model epoch-wise, as well as batch size-wise, also proves the effectiveness of the framework. From these insights, one can note the opportunity of implementing the Sustainable IT Framework for achieving important environmental and economic goals, thus becoming one of the primary tools for achieving sustainable IT management. By providing insights specific to sustainability in organizations, this study will be of much benefit to any organization or policymaker who is interested in improving the existing sustainability agenda through the integration of advanced IT solutions.
