Scalable techniques for electronic control of programmable photonic circuits

As the scale of programmable photonic circuits increases, solutions are needed to address the increasing complexity of electronic readout circuits that monitor the optical functionality. Here we propose two scalable methods for controlling programmable chips with a single readout circuit, without significant performance penalties.
