Metasurface‐Driven Electronic Attack

Summary

This chapter demonstrates how to carry out two classical electronic attack (EA) measures with metasurfaces. The first is the cross‐polarization jamming. Conventionally, cross‐polarization jamming is an active, self‐screening technique that exploits one vulnerability existing in some radar antennas, like the parabolic dish. Cheap drones are key for the implementation of massive, autonomous swarms. The chapter provides a brief introduction to monopulse radars. It discusses the theory of cross‐polarization and blinking jamming, as well as their respective implementations with metasurfaces. The chapter considers the performance of already fabricated metasurfaces to assess these techniques in our electronic warfare scenario simulator. It focuses on the cross‐polarization jamming with passive, power‐amplifying, and reconfigurable polarization‐conversion metasurfaces. The chapter also discusses the impact of polarization‐conversion ratio/deployment rate.
