Control Testing and Characterization of a Reaction Wheel for an ADCS Module

The Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) is crucial for managing the orientation and stability of nanosatellites like CubeSats during space missions. Reaction Wheels (RW), key components of ADCS, adjust satellite orientation by applying angular momentum. This study focuses on the characterization and evaluation of a specific Reaction Wheel in an ADCS prototype developed at the National University of San Agustín, Arequipa (UNSA). A single-axis Test Bench was built, where the RW, consisting of a brushless motor and an inertia flywheel, was tested. The research includes RW characterization, energy consumption analysis, dynamic modeling, and control. Results confirm the maneuverability of ADCS prototypes with efficient energy use.
