Trajectory simulation of a parafoil system with a ground launch device with negligible mass based on sideslip angle estimation with PID control

The work presents the parafoil system, a flexible aircraft composed of a parafoil canopy, connecting ropes and payload, which is propelled by the drag force of the wind. Its application in aerospace, military and civilian areas is highlighted, including powered variations for increased payload capacity and flight duration. An autonomous system with a PID controller is proposed to accurately track the yaw angle, as a first test run, since it offers a simpler, effective and sufficient solution for the initial conditions of the system, avoiding additional complexity at this preliminary stage, since an initial solution is proposed. The simulation includes two types of trajectories: helical and horizontal, an object release device is considered to release an object to the ground, determining its final position using the kinematics equations. It is concluded that the proposed control method is effective for applications at relatively low altitudes with minimal atmospheric disturbances.
