Feedforward Frequency Control of Interconnected Power System Using Artificial Hummingbird Algorithm

This work introduces a feed forward controller for load frequency regulation in multi-area interconnected power system in order to overcome the sluggish performance of feedback control methods. In case of the feedback control approach, the control action is taken after disturbances occur, whereas in the feed forward control approach, the control action is taken before disturbances occurred in the output. Initially, a two-area interconnected power system with thermal generators is simulated with conventional controllers and the performances are compared with the proposed feed forward controller. The system's performances are also compared by tuning the controller with different popular optimization techniques and the recent artificial hummingbird algorithm. The superior optimization algorithm is applied to tune the proposed controller sensitivity analysis, and the responses were reported to be satisfactory.
