Challenges and Solutions in Modern DC Grids Part 3: Protection and Safety

This paper safety and protection in a DC grid is described. It discusses overcurrent and short-circuit protection as well as new methods to make human interaction with the DC safer. The various protection methods must be built into all energy-producing devices that are connected to the DC grid. The protection devices that are required inside the power electronic converters are discussed, as well as galvanic isolation.
