NTN Agent for System Information Block SIB19

3GPP Release 17 introduces Non-Terrestrial Network as a fundamental part of the actual 5G and future 6G mobile networks. The paper focus on one of the problem encountered in 5G NTN implementation: the large delay induced by the satellites. To overcome this problem, 3GPP proposes a new System Information Block SIB19 to be added, carrying all the necessary information on the timing and satellite orbital parameters to address all the satellite specific challenges. Considering the importance of the in-lab testing prior to over the satellite testing, we use Open Air Interface (OAI), an open source implementation of 5G NTN protocol stack, together with our in-house satellite channel emulator to build an end-to-end testing setup for 5G NTN over LEO/MEO/GEO satellites. A new module that implements SIB19 in OAI software is proposed and validated with the OAI community. In the same time we consider to use Two Line Element as satellite orbital parameters descriptor to derive all necessary parameters for both channel emulator and the new SIB19 module. This way we provide a perfect synchronization between 5G platform and channel emulator for LEO/MEO satellites. The success of the proposed setup and SIB19 implementation was confirmed by experiments.
