Sustainable Design and Community Engagement: Lessons Learned from Low-Carbon Communities

This paper examines sustainable design features and community engagement mechanisms in selected low-carbon residential communities, aiming to understand better and implement these strategies. The research selects specific communities and collects and analyzes data from various sources. The main findings show that energy-efficient building designs, renewable energy utilization, safety and security, social activities, and mobility and transportation are common features in low-carbon communities. However, less attention is paid to strategic economic development. Successful low-carbon communities need clear communication and stakeholder engagement. Challenges include high construction and maintenance costs, communication and knowledge sharing, and better integration of green technologies. This study provides practical suggestions and highlights the importance of early-stage participation in strategic planning, design, and operation for achieving sustainability goals.
