Abstract:

This document surveys existing terrestrial network security practices, focusing on public key infrastructure with X.509 (PKIX), and identifies ways that the existing systems and protocols can be used in a delay-tolerant networking (DTN) environment. Additional discussion of protocols currently under development shows how PKIX security can be used directly and efficiently within a DTN. These are combined into one possible vision for distributed and autonomous security within the existing LunaNet architecture.
