Neovascular Membrane Identification in OCTA Images and Biomarker Extraction for Patients Suffering from Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a common eye condition and a leading cause of vision loss among people age 50 and older, is the focus of this research work. By means of classical image processing techniques and deep learning methods, the identification of the neovascular membrane areas in an Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) is made. The identified areas are relevant for the presence of AMD allowing for the focus on biomarker extraction. The correct extraction of relevant biomarkers that can show the evolution of the disease and the effect of intravitreal injections. A dataset of OCTA images with patients suffering from AMD was crated for the research work in this paper.
