Shared Aperture Quasi-Yagi and Tapered Slot Antenna for sub-6 GHz and mm-wave 5G Applications

This work presents a new, simple dual-band shared aperture antenna. The proposed design is based on a Quasi-Yagi antenna that operates in the sub-6 GHz band and an open-ended tapered slot antenna that covers the 5G mm-wave band. The Quasi-Yagi antenna resonates at 5.6 GHz, with a 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 1.2 GHz, from 5 GHz to 6.2 GHz. In contrast, the tapered slot antenna resonates at multiple frequencies, covering a 10-dB ultra-wide between 24 GHz and 34 GHz. The designed antenna achieves a peak gain of 3.3 dBi at 5.6 GHz, which was improved by adding a director, while a gain of 8 dBi was achieved in the mm-wave band at 31.7 GHz. The antenna has a compact footprint of 25 × 27 mm².
