Investigation of the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) in the Calibration Setup (Following IEC 61000-4-2)

The transient electromagnetic field in the calibration setup for ESD testing (acc. IEC 61000-42) is both computed and also measured in selected points. A number of different simulator device models are considered in the numerical field simulation and a significantly improved numerical model leads to more accurate simulation results. On the measuring side a new setup has been constructed in order to get more reliable values of the target current and in particular of the electric and the magnetic field at selected points. The agreement between measured and simulated field values could be improved considerably.
